Gian Bacardi had every reason to be confident going into his Porsche and BMW owners Club races this weekend at Sebring International Raceway. Afterall, in the month of April, Gian collected 4 wins with Fara and PBOC racing organizations. In addition, he traveled to the famous iconic race track, Watkins Glen International Raceway where he was able to familiarize himself with both the full and NASCAR circuit.

At Sebring, during the second practice session, after only a hand full of laps at high speed, Bacardi's Rum Bum BMW M3 suffered suspension failure and he was forced to go to the backup Mazda Miata.

Sebring International Raceway is the oldest road course in North America, portions of which were originally a WWII B-17 training base. It is also known as the host for the famous 12 Hours of Sebring, arguably one of the most difficult and grueling races in motorsports.  The race is a test of driver stamina and more crucial mechanical durability.  It punishes both man and machine with its concrete surface and unbelievable bumps.

The failure to the Rum Bum M3 happened at top speed on the front straight after having exited the bumpy final corner.  Bacardi with coach and passenger Matt Plumb were able to quickly limp the vehicle off the track to a safe location to inspect the damage.  Unfortunately, due to the speed at which the incident occurred several pieces surrounding the failed part were damaged making it impossible for a quick fix.

The Rum Bum team (Ansa Motorsports) immediately had a backup option in place and the teams spare Spec Miata was brought up from Miami for Sunday's races.

Sunday’s races would leave Gian in a class of his own as most of the PBOC race competitors would be driving cars with significantly more horsepower.  Starting from the back in two races of 28 and 26 racers, Gian was able to finish 17th & 18th.  This was great considering the performance disadvantage he faced.

Stay tuned for Bacardi's next event at Homestead Speedway, May 30-31st with Nasa Pro Racing.

Hey Gian Good thing you were able to pull the car off the track safely. You did pretty good considering all the obstacles. June
