Got Paint?
The bikes have a new paint job! On Saturday afternoon, while Shawn Gann watched his boys at the park, the Rum Bum motorcycles arrived back at the Gann’s shop in Stoneville, North Carolina after their 230-mile journey to custom paint master Barney Squire’s shop in Locust Grove, Virginia. Then at dusk, after exhausting every ounce of self-control full knowing what graphic glory was to await him back at the shop, Gann feasted his eyes on his freshly painted Rum Bum bike like a kid on Christmas morning. “I flipped out!” he exclaimed with excitement tangible and contagious. And, for the foreseeable future, Gann will do what any kid would do with a new toy: play with it. In Gann’s world that includes applying his limited edition Grateful Dead decal near the gas tank.
After re-meeting the bike – after all, the new paint job makes it feels like new- Gann tackled the astronomical task of choosing a proper name. After some very deep thought and reflection, he said, the name he chose is simply the only possible and correct title for his Pro Stock Motorcycle. “My bike’s name...” he said with an American Idol-worthy pregnant pause, “…is Jupiter.”
He can’t really explain why he named it Jupiter. He can’t even verbalize the shapes and patterns he designed for his bike. It just felt right. But he did know he didn’t want to “name it Betsy or some %*/#.” And what’s obvious is that the results are jaw dropping trip-tastic. Gann begs the question: “Do you expect anything less from me?”
