Don't let her serious demeanor fool you. Rachel Goodrich's music is seriously fun. Of course, anything accompanied by a ukulele is fun. Add a kazoo and you've got a party. Add Goodrich's ethereal voice and you've got the stuff of long sunny summer Saturdays spent skipping along the sidewalk.
This makes the name of her debut album - Tinker Toys - quite apt. You can can hear the toys in her music - her uke, kazoo, chimes and tambourine. It's the music you might make with a toy box full of kid-sized instruments if you were 1) very talented and 2) had a keen sense of rhythm. Because we don't have either we're happy to leave the music-making merriment to Goodrich. Lucky for us all, she's happy to continue making it.
And lately, she's been making it all over the place. We caught up with the Miami Beach native at ROTHBURY. From there, she flew out to L.A. where she's doing several stints at Hotel Cafe. Festies can check her out next at the Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe.
