Before you start your drive to Koh Samet, make sure to fill up on Thai snacks for the journey. One delicious treat is Ka-nom Bueang, a rice flour shell with a coconut cream filling and various toppings. Grab a box of these treats to hold you over until you reach the island.

Once on the island, you're greeted by a fleet of colorful fishing boats. Join the local crew for an early morning fishing trip or just hop aboard for a spin around the island. Or, follow your nose for a taste of that morning's catch.

Or, head to the beach and the food will follow. This vendor is selling roasted hard-boiled eggs; roasting lends a smoky flavor to the yolk, for a particularly Thai bend on a familiar snack.

For a unique dining experience, visit the Ploy Samed restaurant. To access this restaurant, visitors ring a bell that summons a boat, which carries them out to the stilted restaurant. Because each table has an open bottom, diners can dangle their feet over the edge, and, in an ironic twist, watch fish swim below as they dig into the fresh seafood piled before them.
