Pepper Summons the Past
If Pepper's music sounds like it's straight outta the '90's, it's because they've been around that long. Formed in 1996 on the island of Kailua-Kona in Hawaii, Pepper moved to Southern California in 1999 to perfect their sweet, beachy, Sublime-like rhythms. Since then they've played and toured with the likes of Snoop Dog, 311 and Shaggy.
Pepper probably wouldn't mind our saying their sound is a bit outdated. Their latest and third album In With the Old purposely retreats back to a time when "music used to be collectively better," the band says.
We look forward to watching this band as they evolve and continue to find their sound. They might just find that the music of the now, and of the future, is just as worthy of their presence, and participation, as is the music of the past. For now, the band seems content just to be where they are. Touring, messing around at home, and writing the occasional song.
