The Amazingly Talented Amazing Baby

It might be hard to tell from the video, but Amazing Baby really is amazingly talented. At the risk of sounding like a teenager circa 1986, their music totally rocks. Totally. And in a very good way. The band's sound is impressively tight, their melodics are appropriately fevered, and their debut album, Rewild, is remarkably excellent.

Amazing Baby's sound is hard to pin down. You can hear a bit of everything in them but their music is not at all derivative. Rather, it's a highly evolved animal with traits that trace it back to Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Billie Idol and Thomas Dolby. Their sound innovates, but not too much. You don't have to strain to follow it. Just sit back and listen, or in the case of the up-tempo "Kankra," get up and dance.

These Brooklyn boys share a borough with their famous college friends MGMT, so look for them all together at a Wesleyan reunion, or on a stage near you.
