You might imagine a band with the name And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead to be pretty hardcore. But Trail of Dead is actually kind of theatric; they are also hugely symphonic and pretty fun to listen to. Make no mistake, they are dark. But they're dark in a smart way, not dark in an angry white kid way.
