ACL Video Interview

Mute Math Likes it Hard

The radio loves pop-sensible rock; it’s no wonder then that the radio loves Mute Math, the photogenic rock band out of New Orleans. The foursome has been “rockin’ it up the charts” ever since their self-titled debut in hit in 2006 thanks, in part, to the exposure of their single “Typical.” The soundtrack-worthy tune made appearances on several hit lists, in a promo for The Discovery Channel, and was preformed by a contestant on American Idol.

The band decided to go harder for their second album, as frontman Paul Meany told Danielle, they wanted it “harder, better, faster, stronger.” Meany has been quoted as saying that what they wanted to do with the second album was “embarrass the first.”

Whether of not the band pulled it off is up to you to decide. Armistice hit stores in August. And you know what? It’s rockin’ it up the charts.

When we met Mute Math’s Meany and (Darren) King at ACL, the album wasn’t the only thing on their minds. They spoke to Danielle about favorite books, the things that inspire them and the things that can go wrong at a rock show.
