ACL Video Interview

Sibling Rivalry? Not Here.

When we heard that Jypsi, the fashionable quartet from Nashville, were siblings, we raised our eyebrows. Any fights? Any sibling rivalry? Any jealousy? No, no no. While they might not make for good gossip, the foursome makes for great forward-thinking country music. Which is to say, this ain’t your mama’s country music.

It’s not just their punky hair and clothes that are taking Nashville by storm, it’s their talent and their range. Jypsi seems just as apt playing their radio-friendly “Mister Officer” and the bluegrass-focused “Kandi Kitchen,” a track on which the band both shows off their chops and proves their worth. If their self-titled debut says anything it’s that Jypsi is no Nashville novelty.

The world of country has taken notice. The video for “Mister Officer” gets regular play on CMT and Country superstar Keith Urban is an admitted fan, calling the band “insanely fresh and fiercely original.”

Though the band has been around for a long time (since 1994, when its current lead singer was only 3), it appears as though they’re just beginning to hit their stride.
