Let’s Start a Riot
It’s in a DJ’s blood to work a nasty remix, but to an underground duo that’s slowly rising from the Indie sewer, finger-licking monster mashes are the fuel that fires. Daniel LeDisko and Jo’B are the two parts that make up Cali-based tumultuous twosome, LA Riots. They might not be rapping about the Rodney King like NWA did back in the day, but these masters of chaos know how to scramble an already popular jam into a saltier blend – and let’s face it, these days it ain’t about the sugarcoating. Their Electro/Dance/Indie flavor has lead them to recreating top-requested mashes including Justice’s “D.V.N.O.,” Kylie Minogue’s “Boombox,” The Scanner’s “Lowlife,” Chromeo’s “Bonafied Lovin’” and VHS or Beta’s “Can’t Believe A Single Word,” to name a few.
These cats are still so Indie, they don’t even sport their own personal Web site. Sure they rock a Myspace, but if you want to learn more about LA Riots, you’ll have to catch them in the club, where they turn a venue that was once-empty and silent into a futuristic, colorful disco; where feet dance faster than the needle to the vinyl. They continue to make headway as one of the Fool’s Gold (A-Trak, Chromeo, Jokers of the Scene, Nacho Lovers, Kid Sister, etc.) Record Label’s hottest artists. In addition, LA’s also gained soaring-high marks from MSTRKRFT. “Whenever we play with them, we know we really have to bring our best, and not many DJs make me nervous,” JFK said.
Their power-forward tenacity and high energy brought LA Riots to this year’s WMC on the to-do list of many (last year they stirred some buzz, but not nearly as much as ‘09). Scheduling sets at hot spots including Mansion, The White Room and LOUIS, and two days at Ultra, LA Riots are definitely not considered lukewarm; but catch ‘em while they’re still semi-true to their Indie roots, because they’re on a heated path to spontaneous combustion.
Next up, LA will release a much-anticipated remix of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” in addition to embarking on a summer tour with famed The Crystal Method. If you’re looking to add some of LA Riots’ heavy facelifts to your iPod, we recommend their recent blends of The Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name,” Crystal Castles’ “Crimewave” and Chris Cornell feat. Timbaland’s “A Part of Me.”
Sit back, press ‘shuffle’ and enjoy.
