Rum Bum racer Gian Bacardi got a bit of the star treatment Wednesday morning on South Beach when he was interviewed for a piece on racing, after his recent win during the FARA RACE WEEKEND. Gian has really taken to the car and acting on the instruction from veteran driver and his mentor Matt Plumb, seems to be on a fast track to the racing big leagues.
Some people just have natural intuition and great reflexes and Gian seems to have both in abundance. When he started in November, Gian did not know how to drive a stick shift and in his first race he beat drivers with years of experience. That’s pretty impressive and has made more than a few people look up and take notice. “He’s only 19 years old, but he’s grasped the concepts and applied them in a very short period of time. He’s crammed about 2 years of driving experience into about 4 months,” says Matt Plumb.
Gian seemsa little shy and humbled by all the attention he’s been getting. But it’s all part of the territory of a race car driver. Somehow we think he’ll be used to the winners circle before you know it.
