For All You Lollagaggers
To South Floridians, August 7 through 9 is home to one helluva fest in Key West, but music buffs will definitely be heading out of the crustacean nation (Note: in case you didn’t pick up, I’m talkin’ Lobster Fest, friends). The music fest brigade continues throughout the summer with the announcement of Lollapalooza 2009, where the Windy City transforms into a sound junkie’s paradise – compliments of Perry Farrell and the boys of Jane’s Addiction – where treble and bass bounce off 100-story buildings and the Midwesterner folk welcome you with open arms.
Fresh off the press, Lollapalooza has officially announced the headliners of 2009’s big event. Along with Jane’s Addiction, jam out to Depeche Mode, Tool, The Killers, Beastie Boys, Kings of Leon, Lou Reed, Ben Harper and Relentless7, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg, Rise Against, Andrew Bird, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, The Decemberists, STS9, Animal Collective, Band of Horses, Of Montreal, Coheed and Cambria, Ben Folds, Crystal Castles, Santigold, Gomez, Silversun Pickups, Ra Ra Riot, Asher Roth, Manchester Orchestra, Alberta Cross and Cage the Elephant.
In addition to big names, Lollapalooza stays true to the all-encompassing music initiative with a ridiculous schedule of mix masters hitting up PERRY’s throughout each day. Check out Bassnectar, MSTRKRFT, Simian Mobile Disco, Deadmau5, Boys Noize, Kid Cudi, Crookers, A-Trak, Hercules and Love Affair, LA Riots, The Bloody Beetroots, Kaskade, The Glitch Mob, Hollywood Holt and the Animal Collective on the after-hours ones and twos. And, we’re talking all-DJ sets kids, no skimping here…
Still deciding on which fests you fancy? Lollapalooza’s got crazy interactive multimedia compliments to their Web site. In addition to plenty of live feeds for VIPs through Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc., you can brush up on the sounds of Lolla just by visiting the site. After browsing the lineup, click an artist, which will link you to a bio and a streaming sample of tunage for your convenience.
This famed Chicago fest, set to take over Grant Park, has action to boast. Beer gardens, Electronica tents, mouthwatering munchies, unique art, a green-friendly initiative and private cabanas with platforms and wait staff! During the day, you can brush up on that tan by Lake Michigan. As night falls, take in the seriously breathtaking view of the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired skyline. Festies looking for a big city experience instead of the middle-of-nowhere feel, Lollapalooza is your kind of brand.
