Rum Bum Racing Ready to Defend GRAND-AM Championship in 2013

Orlando, Fla. (27 December 2012) – Rum Bum is Back!

After scoring five wins on the way to the 2012 GRAND-AM Team Championship, Rum Bum Racing will look to defend the Championship with another strong run in the 2013 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

The team, which debuted at Daytona with a big win for drivers Gian Bacardi and Matt Plumb in the team’s first race in 2010, will see Plumb once again joined by Nick Longhi as his co-driver. The duo will co-drive in their third consecutive year together as they return to the No. 13 Rum Bum Porsche.

Rum Bum Racing Takes 2012 GRAND-AM Team Championship

Lakeville, Conn. (4 October 2012) - Luis Bacardi’s Rum Bum Racing capped off a dominating season by winning the final race of the year at Lime Rock Park and securing the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Team Championship.

The team, which signaled its championship intentions with a huge victory in its very first race at Daytona International Speedway in January 2010, clinched the team championship title when drivers Nick Longhi and Matt Plumb drove to their fifth victory of the season - as the team won half of this year’s race events. The team was able to deliver this incredible performance despite their successes motivating GRAND-AM to add 150 lbs in extra ballast to their Porsche 911, just to let other teams try and keep up. It didn’t work.

Rum Bum Racing Wins Race and Championship at Lime Rock Park

Lakeville, Conn. (29 September 2012) - Rum Bum Racing had one goal entering the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season finale at Lime Rock Park – win.

Drivers Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi executed Joe Varde’s game plan to perfection as the team scored its fifth race win of the year to lock in the GRAND-AM Team Championship.

The win marked the second victory in as many years for the team at Lime Rock Park and was the first-ever Championship for the young team, which won in its debut at Daytona International Speedway in January 2010.

(17 September, 2012) – When Rum Bum Racing moved from the highly-successful BMW M3 to the Porsche 911, it was a move that shocked the paddock. But with back to back wins for Luis Bacardi’s Rum Bum Racing, the team made the change look easy despite never having raced the Porsche before. Drivers Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi combined for wins at Barber Motorsports Park and then again at the team’s home track, Homestead-Miami Speedway. With just one round of racing left in the 2012 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season, the team holds a slim lead in the team championship standings as the group chases its first-ever championship.

Monterey Calif. (8 September 2012) – Fighting for the lead with less than 30 minutes remaining in the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Rum Bum Racing’s pre-race plans were playing out exactly as the championship-leading team had hoped. But a curious and confusing call from GRAND-AM late in the race saw the team forced to serve a drive through penalty and suffer to an 11th place finish. The team still holds a four point advantage in the provisional Team Championship standings, and will look to secure the title in the final round at Lime Rock Park.

Rum Bum Racing Focused on Championship Target

Monterey Calif. (8 September 2012) – The GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge team championship-leading team of Rum Bum Racing will start from the third row in the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this afternoon after Nick Longhi posted a quick time of 1:35.675-seconds during this morning’s 15-minute qualifying session to put the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Porsche sixth on the 63-car combined class grid. The top-three GS cars are separated by just nine points in the championship with just two rounds yet to run, and the Rum Bum Racing squad is firmly focused on winning the championship title. The group utilized each of the event’s three practice sessions to work on the race set up of the car to ensure that Longhi and Matt Plumb have the best car underneath them as they contest what is sure to be an intense race around the 2.238-mile Laguna Seca circuit.

Rum Bum Racing Takes Championship Hit in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (27 July 2012) – After a race that saw history being made, two and a half hours of frantic racing, heavy rain storms, a red flag, and some questionable driving from a familiar source, Rum Bum Racing will leave the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a banged up Porsche but a small lead in the provisional Team Championship points.

Longhi opened the 2.5-hour race from the ninth position in the 73-car field, running in the top-10 throughout the beginning stages of the race. The Rum Bum squad took advantage of the second full course caution of the race to call the No. 13 to pit road out of ninth place for a routine pit stop and driver change. Longhi handed the car over to Plumb while the team performed another flawless pit stop to return the Porsche to the track 16th in the order.
